Assistant Vice Provost for the Office of Student Affairs and the Director and Chief Health Officer of Boynton Health
Carl Anderson has worked at the University of Minnesota since 1977 and has been with Boynton Health Service since 2004. Prior to 2004 he served as Senior Director of Ambulatory Care for University of Minnesota Physicians, and Chief Executive Officer for University Affiliated Family Physicians. University committee work includes serving as an ex-officio member on the University of Minnesota Benefits Advisory Committee and co-advisor for Boynton Health Service Student Health Advisory Committee. His past volunteer work includes serving on a local school district referendum committee, being a bible school instructor, teaching English to Russian immigrants, as well as various volunteer opportunities on campus.
Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and a professor of political science
John Coleman is Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and a professor of political science. Since taking his post at CLA in 2014 he has focused his efforts in four key areas: ensuring that CLA alumni are the most desirable graduates available; a relentless focus on research and creative excellence; advancing diversity to mirror the community at large; and deepening a culture of engagement for CLA’s alumni, community, and state. Dean Coleman earned a Ph.D. in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a B.A. summa cum laude in government and history from Clark University. Prior to his arrival at CLA he was Chair of the Political Science Department and a Lyons Family Faculty Fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he taught for over 20 years.
Dean of the College of Biological Sciences
Valery Forbes is Dean of the College of Biological Sciences at University of Minnesota. Previously, she served as Director of the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and spent more than two decades at Roskilde University in Denmark where she was founding Head of the Department of Environmental, Social and Spatial Change. She received a doctorate in coastal oceanography and a master's degree in marine environmental science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She serves on the editorial boards of several international journals and provides advice to a wide range of government and industry bodies.
Assistant Dean for Learning Abroad
Martha Johnson is the Assistant Dean for Learning Abroad at the University of Minnesota, and oversees one of the largest education abroad offices in the US, sending over 3500 students abroad annually. She has worked in international education since 1991 and at the U since 2001. She has held elected and leadership positions in NAFSA: Association of International Educators and the Forum on Education Abroad. She also currently Inline image 1serves on the Advisory Council for Diversity Abroad and the Advisory Board for the Fund for Education Abroad.
Assistant Vice President, Office of the Vice President for Research
Lisa Warren has served as Assistant Vice President, Office of the Vice President for Research since 2006. She has broad experience with the University community system wide through the OVPR's interactions with all areas. She was a member of the President's Emerging Leaders in 2003, served on the National Council of University Research Administrators (2000-2012) and was a Minnesota Partnership Executive Leader (2012. She is an alumna of the University having obtained her undergraduate degree at the Carlson School of Management and graduate degree at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, and currently is the proud parent of a University of Minnesota Duluth student.
